Blotanical - Find of the Year!

When I started this gardening blog I felt a bit lonely after a while as it didn't appear that there were any other gardeners out there blogging. I looked around and they all seemed to be in the US or in languages I couldn't read. And then I came across a blog which mentioned Blotanical and actually had the address highlighted on the page. The author of the blog went on to say that once she'd joined she had had so much fun and met so many people it was unblievable. In my haste to click on this link I lost the blog address which was pretty stupid as I'd like to thank that person big time. Finding Blotanical has been like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I haven't been a member that long but in the short time I have been there I've had more friendly welcomes, found more interesting gardening blogs both in the UK and abroad and I 've learnt lots already! I've learnt about picks and faves and replying to messages and accessing messages and its just been a load of fun, even though I've clicked on the wrong links a couple of times and ended up in limbo land. In fact I've spent so much time looking round the site that I've not done a lot of gardening. I just have to say a big thank you to my unknown introductee and hope I come across your blog in the fullness of time. And a great big thank you to the site owner for a brilliant idea!

  1. Thank you for your 'fave' on Blotanical. I haven't been a member long, but you're right, you can find some great blogs there.
Regarding your Begonia's, I think they are Mimulus. They do tend to self-seed everywhere. I've had some come up in between the paving this year.
I'm pleased I've found your blog. I will keep checking back for updates.

  2. Jo thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction re the self sown flowers. Of course they are Mimulus! I had forgotten that I'd also had some of these too. I could only remember the begonias and the leaves looked very similar to begonias.

  3. As a newbie about nine months ago, I had no idea what an enormous gardening community there is on the Internet. Blotanical is a nice service, but it's the tip of the iceberg. Poke around more and you'll find several well-established bloggers who manage garden blogging directories.

The most fluid, practical way to connect is to use Twitter. If you haven't tried it yet, get a Twitter account: http://www.twitter.com, download the TweetDeck client, and let me know you've arrived. I'd be happy to introduce you to several hundred garden bloggers who are active on Twitter, and who maintain very lively interactions.

Once you have a Twitter account, look for me as @cityslipper. Of course, if you're already on Twitter, keep exploring it; there are various gardening groups there, and probably more than a thousand garden bloggers with far more gardening enthusiasts.

The garden blogger activity on Twitter is energetic and engaging... far less static than Blotanical.

I hope I hear from you on Twitter!
